Moscow (GPA) – Geopolitics Alert contributor Damir Nazarov explains the causes and rationale behind the aggression of Saudi Arabia and its allies against Yemen and why they are in fact a great deal more than just traditional foreign policy. Let me show you why.

Let us begin with some basic explanations and end with the ones that are more complex:

Ideological differences

Saudi hostility towards Yemeni tribes throughout history has always carried corresponding ideological overtones. During the Cold War, the struggle in Yemen was viewed through the prism of the United States vs. the USSR, where the Saudis served interests of Washington. In modern times, we see how Banu Saud, being a puppet of the States, organized the war against Yemen while referring to the format of the struggle of the Americans against Tehran. Accordingly, the very idea of someone from the neighbors sympathizing with the ideas of the Islamic Republic causes anger at the Saudi Palace and the natural discomfort among representatives of Washington hawks.

Internal Reasons

It is no secret that many of the Saudi elite were unhappy when the current King Salman assumed the throne. Prince Bandar was one of them for instance. I will cite the opinion of Shamil Sultanov, head of the Russian-Islamic Center for Strategic Studies. Regarding the current war in Yemen, Sultanov believes that back in 2014, Bandar bin Sultan teamed up with the head of the administration of the King of Saudi Arabia and the son of Abdullah Saleh (who is concurrently the Ambassador of Yemen in the UAE) and have made efforts to substantially exacerbate the situation in Yemen.

Excerpt from an interview with Sultanov in 2015 about Yemen:

“The decision that Houthis will enter Sana was taken by Bander bin Sultan, who led the General Intelligence Service –
Mukhabarat – Saudi Arabia. And the task was that by the time of the death of the previous king – Abdullah – to create a kind of mobilization readiness, in which the son of Abdullah Prince Mutayb, commander of the National Guard, would be able to impose a state of emergency under the pretext that it will be necessary to fight Houthis”

Sultanov also stresses that this trio of provocateurs tried to push the Houthi forces into Al-Islah groups in Sanaa. But they failed to achieve this. Therefore, when King Abdullah died, supporters of Salman intercepted the power and he became a Crowned Prince. When Salman became king he removed Prince Bandar and reduced Mutyayb’s influence. But is not the only kind of internal rationale for a conflict in Yemen, according to Sultanov. One of the important reasons is the ambitions of the young Minister of Defense Muhammad bin Salman, “who decided to raise his
rating at the Saudi court with a small victorious war, with the help of another heir to the throne Muhammad bin Naif”

Omnipresent Americans

For Washington, the war in Yemen is an attempt to provoke Tehran to engage in conflict. Regardless of whether it be military or political, such actions would allow forming a pretext for a subsequent escalation and potentially direct conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran. This would allow the Americans to untie their hands on Iran. It can also explain the obsession of Americans to prove to the world the presence of Iranian instructors or military
bases in the north of Yemen. However, propaganda cannot provide any evidence. The Iranians are not yielding to provocations, and due to high-level diplomacy have been able to easily escape American incitements.

Pessimistic viewpoint of political analysts

One of the tasks of liberal political consultants in the West is to instill in Islamic electorate adhering to the ideology of Iran, a certain spirit of pessimism. That is, creating an atmosphere according to which Muslims would inhabit a spirit of disillusionment with the Islamic Republic, and the main argument becomes “Where is Iran? Why while having a powerful army it is not helping poor Yemenis, Palestinians?” and so on. That is, there is a hidden tactical game aimed at sowing doubts, pessimism, and disappointment, first of all, amongst politically illiterate orthodox people and those prone to neuro-stressful situations and that, in turn, should, according to the idea of provocateurs, spread such pessimistic thoughts.

War against unifying projects OR The threat of Unity

The forces of evil are aware that in the future, the Islamic north of Yemen and the Islamic south in view of adopting revolutionary- political ideologies can become a grandiose phenomenon not only for little Yemen but also for
Ummah as a whole. If the project of the union of the two communities succeeds, first and foremost, such detrimental phenomena as sectarian rhetoric in the region will sustain a mortal blow. The birthing of a certain general ideology based on the idea of the Islamic revolution, the Yemeni example in view of its political and religious attractiveness will become a case study for thousands of Muslims (including for the people of Saudi Arabia), which automatically marginalizes provocateurs with fanatical and sectarian ideas, even including their support from outside. Immediately after the destruction of the internal enemy personified by sectarians, it will be the turn of the imperialist puppets located in the neighborhood.

Thus far the South has not been able to project a real political force capable of combining at least this part of Yemen into one Islamic force, but the seeds were sown. After all, it is not by chance that clashes take place between various groups of supporters of those who are in alliance with the coalition against those who are against it. As well as arrests, torture, and murder of southerners who openly accuse the coalition of trying to occupy the entire south of Yemen.

The forces of evil against Mahdi (PBUH)

It is no secret that the imperialists, as a servant of the Antichrist and the Devil, are interested in eliminating the troops of those on the loyal path of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and the prophet Isa (may peace be upon him).

The American website veterans today tells us about the attempts of the CIA and the Mossad to find Mahdi’s tomb location and all the signs of his existence. In parallel with the search, the imperialists play out conflict situations against the Islamic forces who are inclined towards the Way of the Hidden Imam, peace be upon him. Therefore, present Yemen, with its revolutionary vanguard, joined the group of the faithful with a reference to the arrival of Mahdi
peace be upon him. The appearance of a new power with a sacred and heroic mission cannot but enrage the Great Satan and his spiritual mentors. Therefore, even in the event of the termination of the current conflict, Riyadh in its pro-American form along with its allies will continue to try to destroy the revolutionaries of Yemen and the rest who disagree with them.

Here we can also recall the reproaches from Muhammad bin Salman to Iran, in connection with the political activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran focused on the arrival of Mahdi peace be upon him. That is the young prince who calls himself a Muslim dislikes not just the Islamic Republic itself, which is already clear because of the prince’s political affiliation to the imperial camp. In his own words, the prince simply once again convinced the sober-minded part of the
Ummah in his allegiance to the forces of Dajjal.
