What’s Next For Palestinians After Non-Violent Resistance Was Ignored?

gaza massacre
Al-Quds (AHT) – The International Community has effectively failed to uphold the law and to protect Palestinians as they peacefully demonstrated against Israel’s illegal siege. What will the failure to punish Israel for their crimes now mean for Palestinian resistance?

The people of the Gaza Strip have been effectively spat on by the International Community and Mainstream Media, after attempting to demonstrate in large numbers along the separation fence in order to voice the despair endured due to Israeli violations of international law.

Many scholars, TV-show hosts, activists, and columnists had posed the question as to why Palestinians had not organized in their tens of thousands, in a peaceful manner, along the separation fence with Israel. There was an impression upon many influential minds that, if Palestinians would organize peaceful demonstrations quoting the law and not killing or injuring a single Israeli in the process, Israel’s illegally held siege could be broken and that the regime would be forced by the international community to uphold the law, this delusion was destroyed between March the 30th (‘Land Day’, start of the demonstrations) and the 15th of May (‘Nakba Day’, end of the declared demonstrations).

After seven weeks of non-violent demonstrations, in which 13,000+ Palestinians were injured and upwards of 124 were executed, all that was achieved was towards breaking Israel’s siege was perhaps at best bad PR for Israel.

Instead of the Israeli Regime being brought to its knees, we saw the following, all of which unfortunately we have wasted our time debunking:

We witnessed a complicit Mainstream Media and International Community using the following terms:

  1. Clashes: Because somehow Palestinian demonstrators were part of “clashes”. Of course they were unarmed, quoting international law, went on for 7 weeks, were behind a “security fence”, large rolls of barbed wire and Israeli Snipers positioned behind mounds of dirt, all of which coincided with the fact that these “clashes” somehow managed to kill and injure not a single Israeli. Israel yet again performed a miracle, not even enduring a single casualty or real injury during the seven weeks of deadly clashes with terrorists…
  2. Israel’s border protection: Because of course Israel, the only country on earth that has not declared its borders, definitely defended itself from a foreign state… Because Gaza is a sovereign state that isn’t enduring a 12-year ongoing illegal siege. Shooting hundreds of women, medics, journalists, and children with live ammunition was a necessity. (There is no border with Gaza, only Armistice Lines drawn out by the UN.)
  3. Gaza violence: Because there wasn’t any reason Palestinians were actually there… Palestinians animalistically cause eruptions of violence when they are slaughtered by Israeli Snipers, who were not attacked. There’s simply “Gaza violence” when unarmed men, women, and children are gunned down by the Israeli military. Because when the KKK choose to lynch African Americans, there was just simply “African American violence”, why would we possibly need to implicate the white supremacists who killed those innocent people?
  4. Hamas, Hamas, Hamas: Because the definition of being a journalist in 2018 is ignoring the facts. When the state in question (Israel) tells you something, you ignore all the facts, for instance, the fact that grassroots organizations organized the Gaza demonstrations. As a real journalist, you simply toss out all rationality, believing whatever the state in question tells you. Hamas couldn’t possibly be a political organization which was democratically elected and the majority of Palestinians couldn’t possibly oppose Hamas. Every Journalist, medic, child and woman slain were undoubtedly Hamas militants. When unarmed Hamas members are killed, it doesn’t matter that they are unarmed, they must have been plotting suicide attacks and it is not possible that Hamas claims them as their own Martyrs for political gain. If Israel says something, it is simply anti-Semitic for you not to take it as an unquestionable fact.

It’s time to wake up to how Israel must be faced

Unfortunately, the demonstrations did one thing for Israel, pleased their trigger-happy snipers and made a great deal of money for those providing their slanted coverage of the massacres.

Those who were previously in illusion about Israel were made to eat their words and either completely deny or accept that Israel must be forced to face a consequence before even considering peace. Palestinians have known for a long time that Israel cannot be reasoned with and must be met with resistance.

If those in the West who are insistent on peacefully bringing about a solution are serious, they better start acting soon. It is not down to the Palestinians to peacefully resist, it is on them to defend their families and liberate their homelands, the non-violent struggle is for those outside of Palestine. If Israel faces the consequences that every other state would be subjected to, this will be what prevents violent Palestinian resistance.

After the inaction of those around the world, at a time when Palestinians were sacrificing their lives and limbs in large proportions, in order to invoke a reaction to end the misery they are facing, we can expect organizations such as Hamas and Islamic Jihad to fight back.

We already got a sample of what is to come

On the 29th of May, you may have seen a headline which stated that Israel had responded to Hamas rocket fire. The 29th was a day during which Hamas fired its glorified fireworks, however, this eruption of pent-up aggression only came after the following.

The Media conveniently managed to skip the first half of the 29th of May, when Israeli F-16’s destroyed what the IDF called a “Hamas tunnel” near the Rafah (Egypt/Gaza) Crossing. Hamas, however, did respond to Israel later that day, firing between 80-114 scrap-metal rockets which killed no one and reportedly injured a few soldiers lightly, as well as giving settlers panic attacks.

Prior to the 29th, when Israel struck more than 65 different sites within the besieged coastal enclave, here’s what else the media missed:

During the seven weeks of the ‘Great Return March’, between the 30th of March and the 15th of May, around 13,000 were injured and 120 were shot dead in Gaza (including members of Hamas), there was no Hamas response.

On the 5th of May Israel killed 6 members of the Al-Qassam Brigades, with a booby-trapped telecommunications box near Khan Younis. Airstrikes were also conducted on the 5th of May against several sites throughout Southern Gaza, Hamas did not respond.

On the 6th of May, Israeli Newspaper ‘Haaretz’, released an article claiming that Hamas were showing signs of wanting a ceasefire truce with Israel, Israel did not respond to any such initiatives by Hamas.

At approximately 11:00 P.M on the 26th of May, Israel fired 25 missiles at sites in Khan Younis and Rafah, resulting in the murder of two members of ‘Islamic Jihad’ as they patrolled an outpost, there was no response to this unprovoked Israeli attack.

On the 28th, an unprovoked tank shelling of Beit Lahia killed a Hamas member. Hamas did not respond on the 28th, leading us to the 29th.

After the back and forth on the 29th, Hamas and Islamic Jihad stood firm on their stance to resist Israeli provocations and there is a big possibility that an escalation is soon coming.

The message that has been sent by the inaction of the International Community, has been to Hamas and other Palestinian resistance factions, that no one is willing to punish Israel when Palestinians struggle peacefully and are murdered in the process.

So being a Palestinian, enduring the unlivable conditions faced in the Gaza Strip, what are you to do?

You cannot engage in peace talks as a Palestinian, you cannot protest peacefully to demonstrate your anger, you can’t boycott Israeli goods or even voice your distaste, even identifying as a Palestinian is going to land you in trouble. So if no peaceful option works and nothing is going to force the world to hold Israel accountable for their crimes, how could you possibly tell Palestinians they should not violently resist?

When even existing in your land and living in your home is going to invoke Israeli violence against you, what is expected? Do Zionists in other countries not even realize that violence will eventually come to Israel?

What is next, comes as a result of the world not listening to message that was being communicated through the ‘Great Return March.’
